What can southern Mexico teach us about birds and conservation in Montana? Shane Sater went to Oaxaca in late 2023 to improve his Spanish and immerse himself in a different culture. What he didn’t know was that this diverse state in southern Mexico would become an integral part of his life. This presentation is his personal experience in Oaxaca, its array of birds and their habitats, and a variety of stories along the way that illuminate the connections between birds, nature, and culture. By learning about the birds, landscape, and culture of Oaxaca, we will also enhance our understanding of birds and nature in Montana!
Shane Sater is a naturalist and field biologist with a passion for birds and ecology. Currently he produces the Wild with Nature monthly podcast (https://wildwithnature.com) in English and Spanish, transporting listeners into nature with birdsong-filled soundscapes and narrated stories about the life around us.
